This Month

Black History Month 2026

Each year, Black History Month honours the experiences, achievements and enduring contributions of Black communities in Canada, while deepening our collective understanding of their history and impact on Canadian society. The theme this year is, “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.” This theme celebrates three decades of Black History Month in Canada and recognizes the enduring legacy of Black Canadians, whose leadership, creativity, innovation and resilience have shaped our past, continue to influence our present, and will inspire future generations.

Volunteer Opportunities

Please contact Ms Kim at the office if you are interested in any of the below. Volunteers can be parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, neighbours, or anyone you can find. No CPIC is required as they will not be providing direct one-on-one supervision to any students.

Pancakes

We are looking for volunteers to cook and serve pancakes to students and clean-up afterwards. Please Note the Date and Time Change: Tuesday, 24 February from 12:00 as students will eat at 1:10.

quiche

Our local Food Share provider is providing us with lunches to serve to our students. It will not be enough for a full lunch for students, just a little addition to their lunch. The menu will vary each week depending on what they have available. Some of the items may be quiche, soup, burrito bowls, mac & cheese etc... We are looking for volunteers that would be able to heat up, serve and clean-up afterwards. The food would be delivered on Wednesday's so we would need volunteers for Thursday starting about 12:00 to be ready for our kids by 1:10. If you are able to volunteer for one or all Thursdays, that would be great.

Crochet

We are looking for volunteers to help out with our Crochet Club which runs Wednesdays from 1:20-1:50. Very basic skills and a good sense of humour are the only requirements.

Food Being Brought Into the School

Glenburnie Public School’s approach to food brought into the school is guided by Limestone District School Board Administrative Procedures and reflects our commitment to student well-being, equity, and high-quality learning environments.

During the school day, our priority is learning. To support this, Glenburnie is continuing to move toward celebrations and special events that do not involve food being brought into the classroom. This approach helps maintain consistent routines, protects instructional time, and ensures that all students can participate fully and comfortably in shared experiences.

Celebrations that focus on connection rather than food—such as games, performances, creative activities, spirit days, or community-building experiences—support a strong sense of belonging and reflect our values of inclusion, dignity, and equity. These experiences allow every child to feel part of the moment in a meaningful way.

Reminder that our school is a Nut Aware School. Due to some very serious allergies, we ask that we be considered a NUT-FREE ZONE. No foods with peanuts or tree nuts should be consumed on school premises.

Kindergarten Registration is Now Open

Kindergarten is a wonderful new world of learning and growing. We learn how to read, how to write and we make so many new friends. Our educator teams help us along the way! You can feel confident your child will be cared for within safe and inclusive environments.

For more information about what is required at time of registration, and to register a new student visit Limestone District School Board then Register A Student.

The Limestone District School Board is committed to your student’s development from Kindergarten to graduation. In Limestone Kindergarten classrooms, children are involved in many activities designed to help young learners explore, discover, play and grow. Kindergarten programs across Ontario offer a full day of learning for four and five year olds. We are unique in offering both English and French Immersion programs in both Year 1 (Junior) and Year 2 (Senior) Kindergarten.

Students may start school in September if they turn age four (Year 1 Kindergarten) or age five (Year 2 Kindergarten) by December 31 of that year. Those students who are already enrolled in Year 1 Kindergarten do not register again. We welcome new students looking to begin Year 1 or Year 2 to our schools year-round, but we encourage parents and guardians to pre-register children in February for the upcoming school year.

Discover Kindergarten in Limestone and learn more about our Kindergarten program, resources, and tips to help your student prepare for Kindergarten.
