Stay Connected with School Council
We encourage all Glenburnie families to follow our School Council Facebook page, Glenburnie School Council, for updates, meeting information, and community initiatives. You can follow the page here: https://www.facebook.com/share/1bNQeFwaUP/
Contact us by e-mail: glenb.council@gmail.com
School Council plays an important role in supporting our students and school, and this is a great way to stay informed about events, fundraising efforts, and opportunities to get involved. Thank you to our School Council for all that you do to support Glenburnie Public School!
Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the school library. All are welcome. Meeting dates are: 11 Mar, 8 Apr,13 May, and 10 Jun.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers can be parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, neighbours, or anyone you can find. No CPIC is required as they will not be providing direct one-on-one supervision to any students.
Do you have a special skill that you could offer to our students? We can host any type of club (e.g. chess, checkers, puzzles, embroidery, yo-yo, dance, singing, crafts, skipping, yoga, colouring). You name it, we probably have some kids that would like it. Your club can be any size and any grades that you want. Our time frames are school days during recess 11:10-11:30 or 1:30-1:50. Time frames are up to you (e.g. every Tuesday in March at 1st recess - maximum 7 students).
Our Food Sharing Project provider is providing us with lunches for our students. It will not be enough for a full lunch for students, just a little addition to their lunch. The menu will vary each week depending on what they have available. Some of the items may be quiche, soup, burrito bowls, mac & cheese etc... We are looking for volunteers that would be able to heat up, serve and clean-up afterwards. The food would be delivered on Wednesday so we would need volunteers for each Thursday starting about 11:30 to be ready for our kids by 1:10. If you are able to volunteer for one or all Thursdays, that would be great.
We need your library skills!! We are looking for volunteers to help organize our library. We also need volunteer librarians to work one day a week or 2 mornings a week (whatever works for you) to be in the library and assist students with signing out books when their class comes for a visit. We will also accept donations of recent and gently used books.
Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Heidi Carfa at 613-331-2852 if you are interested in helping in any way.

Before and After School Care
Bringing Food Into the School
Glenburnie Public School’s approach to food brought into the school is guided by Limestone District School Board Administrative Procedures and reflects our commitment to student well-being, equity, and high-quality learning environments.
During the school day, our priority is learning. To support this, Glenburnie is continuing to move toward celebrations and special events that do not involve food being brought into the classroom. This approach helps maintain consistent routines, protects instructional time, and ensures that all students can participate fully and comfortably in shared experiences.
Celebrations that focus on connection rather than food—such as games, performances, creative activities, spirit days, or community-building experiences—support a strong sense of belonging and reflect our values of inclusion, dignity, and equity. These experiences allow every child to feel part of the moment in a meaningful way.
Reminder that our school is a Nut Aware School. Due to some very serious allergies, we ask that we be considered a NUT-FREE ZONE. No foods with peanuts or tree nuts should be consumed on school premises.
Tri-Board and Bus News
Your child does not have to take the bus in order to sign-up for bus cancellation notifications.
How to Report an Absence
In some instances, students may need to be away from school for illness, appointments or other events. Parents/caregivers can use the SafeArrival system to report a full day absence, an extended student absence and also a late arrival to school. When reporting an absence for a secondary student parents/caregivers will also be able to select an early departure. To report an absence, use one the following methods:
School Messenger application
- Use the email address you provided to the school.
- Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app.
- Tap Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system.
- Select Attendance from the menu, then select Report an Absence and follow the prompts.
SchoolMessenger SafeArrival website portal
- Use the e-mail address you provided to the school.
- Go to the website SchoolMessenger website portal.
- Click Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system.
- Select Attendance from the menu, then select Report an Absence.
Interactive toll-free telephone
- Call 1-855-257-9349 toll-free to report an absence using the automated phone system.
- Follow the instructions to report an absence.
These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For any school day in the school term up to the cut-off time on the day of the absence. Future absences can be reported at any time using any one of these methods.
Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence.
Accessible Parking Reminder
As winter continues and snow piles up in our parking lot, some of our accessible parking signs have become partially covered. We would like to remind families that the accessible parking spaces are located closest to the school along the fence facing the field.
These spaces are reserved at all times — including during morning drop-off and after school — for individuals who have a clearly visible accessible parking permit displayed in their vehicle.
We have one staff member who requires accessible parking every day, as well as several families who rely on these spaces regularly. Unfortunately, there have been times when individuals without a visible permit have parked in these spots, making them unavailable for those who truly need them.
We kindly ask all families to help us ensure these spaces remain accessible and available for those with valid permits. Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and inclusive environment for everyone in our school community.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
