On average, more than 14,000 meals and snacks were served each week, over 530,000 throughout the year, with weekly food orders reaching approximately $17,500.We are grateful to the dedicated staff who make these programs possible, and to The Food Sharing Project for continuing to support student well-being across LDSB. This support is increasingly important as many families continue to face food insecurity. The photo above (pirate flags will be removed and a shade canopy added) is just one of our new additions to our yard for September!Our kindergarten students will benefit from a separate, thoughtfully designed outdoor space that supports play, exploration, and early learning. This area will include sand play, natural elements such as logs and stumps for balancing and climbing, a playhouse for imaginative play, and an outdoor learning space with seating and a double-sided chalkboard. The design focuses on creating a safe, engaging environment tailored to the needs of our youngest learners.Beyond the kindergarten area, we are enhancing the rest of the yard to better support play, learning, and physical activity for all students. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. Year End Letter to Students and Parents

The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education has shared a letter for students, parents and families: Dear Students, Parents and Families,To our amazing students: well done on finishing another school year! This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. Together, these changes will help students stay engaged in their learning and be better prepared for life after graduation.I hope the summer ahead provides an opportunity to recharge and enjoy some well-earned time together. Pride Month Recognition in Limestone

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Education Centre, along with schools across the district, is recognizing Pride Month in the KFL&A region by flying the Progress Pride Flag for the remainder of the school year.The Government of Canada notes that the manner in which the Canadian flag is displayed is not governed by legislation. The guidelines provided are not mandatory for individuals or organizations but are intended to offer general direction.After consultation and clarification from Heritage Canada and communication with trustees, LDSB schools with only one flagpole will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag for the balance of this school year.  Limestone’s goal will be to increase the number of schools with more than one flagpole and/or the addition of yardarms to existing flagpoles to display more than the Canadian flag. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. The photo above (pirate flags will be removed and a shade canopy added) is just one of our new additions to our yard for September!Our kindergarten students will benefit from a separate, thoughtfully designed outdoor space that supports play, exploration, and early learning. This area will include sand play, natural elements such as logs and stumps for balancing and climbing, a playhouse for imaginative play, and an outdoor learning space with seating and a double-sided chalkboard. The design focuses on creating a safe, engaging environment tailored to the needs of our youngest learners.Beyond the kindergarten area, we are enhancing the rest of the yard to better support play, learning, and physical activity for all students. A CPIC (vulnerable sector) is required if they will are providing direct one-on-one supervision to any students.Do you have a special skill that you could offer to our students? We can host any type of club (e.g. checkers, puzzles, embroidery, yo-yo, dance, singing, crafts, skipping, yoga, colouring). You name it, we probably have some kids that would like it. Your club can be any size and any grades that you want. Our time frames are school days during recess 11:10-11:30 or 1:30-1:50. Time frames are up to you (e.g. every Tuesday in April at 1st recess - maximum 7 students).Our Food Sharing Project provider is providing us with lunches for our students. It will not be enough for a full lunch for students, just a little addition to their lunch. The menu will vary each week depending on what they have available. Some of the items may be quiche, soup, burrito bowls, mac & cheese etc... We are looking for volunteers that would be able to heat up, serve and clean-up afterwards. The food would be delivered on Wednesday so we would need volunteers for each Thursday starting about 11:30 to be ready for our kids by 1:10. If you are able to volunteer for one or all Thursdays, that would be great.Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Heidi Carfa at 613-331-2852 if you are interested in helping in any way.<hr><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Upcoming Events</h2>Monday - Every Monday is Mickey Monday. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is Seeking Expression of Interest</h2>The Limestone District School Board is seeking expressions of interest from <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">individuals</a><a href="#_msocom_1" class="editor-link">[EL1]</a>  interested in joining the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) in support of the ongoing Student Census 2025 project.The purpose of the Technical Advisory Group is to provide advice, perspectives, and recommendations related to the design of data collection methods, analysis, and the representation of results for LDSB’s Student Census.
