A Great Start to the School Year!
What a wonderful start we have had at Glenburnie!
It has been great to welcome our students back, see them reconnect with friends and staff, and watch them begin to settle into the routines of a new school year. A very special welcome to all of our new families! There has been such a positive energy throughout the school this week.
I also want to thank our families for the many kind messages we have received about our school start-up. Your words of encouragement and support have been greatly appreciated by all of us.
A positive start to the school year really is a team effort. Our staff work incredibly hard to create safe, welcoming and engaging environments for students, but our families and students are equally important members of that team. Whether it is helping establish routines at home, encouraging independence, communicating with the school, or simply sending children through our doors each morning ready for a new day, we all play an important role.
Thank you for your patience, flexibility and partnership as we have worked through all of the pieces that come with the beginning of a new school year. We are very proud of the start we have had together.
A Few Reminders for Families
Morning Arrival, Supervision & Parking
A reminder that morning supervision begins at 9:00 a.m. Students should not be dropped off or arrive on school property before 9:00 a.m., as staff supervision is not available prior to that time.
Our parking lot can also become very busy during arrival and dismissal. Please drive slowly and cautiously, watch carefully for students and families, and help us keep areas used by our school buses clear. When dropping off or picking up, we ask families to keep stops as brief as possible so that traffic can continue to move safely.
Thank you for your patience with one another during these busy times. A few extra moments of care go a long way toward keeping everyone safe.
After-School Playground Use
If you are picking your child up at the end of the day, we kindly ask that children wait until all buses have left before heading to the playground equipment.
Our staff need to be able to quickly account for students and know which children still need to board a bus. When students who have already been picked up begin playing on the equipment while buses are loading, it can make this process confusing for supervising staff.
Once the buses have departed, families are welcome to use the playground. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe and organized.
Changes to After-School Plans
We know that occasionally plans change during the school day. If your child will be picked up instead of taking the bus, or there is another change to their regular dismissal routine, please contact the school before 3:00 p.m.
After 3:00 p.m., our office and classroom staff are very busy preparing for dismissal, and we cannot guarantee that a phone call, email or message about a change will be received and communicated to your child in time.
Whenever possible, please make all end-of-day arrangements with the school before 3:00 p.m. Thank you for helping us ensure that every student gets where they need to go safely. A final reminder that during the day, if your child is being picked up, we will have them wait in their classrooms to maintain learning until you arrive when they will then be called down.
Data Verification Forms
Data Verification Forms will be coming home with students in the coming days. These forms contain very important information that we rely on throughout the school year, including family contact and emergency information.
Please carefully review the information, make any necessary changes and return the form to the school as soon as possible.
Having accurate and up-to-date contact information is extremely important, particularly if we need to reach you during the school day.
Medical Plans of Care
If your child has a medical condition requiring a Plan of Care, please ensure that the appropriate forms are completed and returned to the school as soon as possible.
Limestone has Plans of Care for students with anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy, as well as a General Plan of Care and additional forms for students who require medication or medical procedures at school.

Concussion Awareness Information
The Limestone District School Board is committed to supporting student health, safety, and well-being. Families are encouraged to review the Board's concussion awareness resources, including information about concussion prevention, recognition, reporting, and the Return to Learn/Return to Physical Activity process.
Parents/guardians are asked to review the LDSB Concussion Codes of Conduct and become familiar with the procedures that help support students following a suspected or diagnosed concussion.

If your child experiences a concussion outside of school, please notify the school as soon as possible so that appropriate supports and return-to-learn procedures can be implemented.
Food, Treats & Allergy Safety
We want celebrations at school to be fun and inclusive while also keeping all of our students safe.
We ask families not to send food or treats into school for birthdays, holidays, classroom celebrations or other special occasions. With a growing number of allergies, dietary restrictions and medical needs within our schools, food brought in for sharing can create unnecessary risks for students.
There are lots of wonderful non-food ways to celebrate special days, and we appreciate families helping us keep celebrations safe and inclusive for everyone.
Glenburnie is also a nut-safe environment. Please do not send food to school that contains peanuts or tree nuts, and please remember that individual classrooms may occasionally have additional allergy considerations. While no school can guarantee an allergen-free environment, we all have an important role to play in reducing risk for students with serious allergies.

School Advisory Council – Everyone is Welcome!
Our first Glenburnie School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting of the year will take place:
Wednesday, September 23
6:00 p.m.
Elections for positions within School Council will take place at this meeting.
We would love to see both returning and new families get involved. You do not need to hold an elected position to attend SAC meetings. All parents and guardians are welcome to join us, hear about what is happening at the school, share ideas and be part of the conversation.
School Councils are an important way for families and schools to work together and strengthen our school community.

Labour Day Reminder
A reminder that schools will be closed on Monday, September 7 for Labour Day. We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, September 8.

Derek McGowan is a member of the Joyceville community, a dad to two JPS students, and for the past four years, he’s been bringing private music lessons right to Joyceville on Mondays!
Derek is a full-time Guitar, Bass & Ukulele teacher with over 30 years of experience. Whether your child is just picking up an instrument for the first time or ready to take their playing to the next level, Derek keeps lessons fun, encouraging and tailored to what they actually want to play.
From Pop, Hip-Hop and Country to Blues, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal — there’s something for every future musician (and rock star 🤘).
